Hidden Hearts
A downloadable game for Windows
Hidden Hearts is a fairly simple game with a fairly simple goal.
Find the heart hidden among the rest.
⚠ EPILEPSY WARNING ⚠
This game contains rapidly alternating patterns and in some cases full screen flashing. This may be an issue for people with photosensitive epilepsy, and unfortunately this is a key aspect of the game that can not be turned off.
For those who don't have photosensitive epilepsy but find the pattern in the background of the game to be too difficult to look at, turn on the [Solid Noise] toggle in the options' menu. This will pick a random color to set at the beginning of each game, which some people may find helpful.
The Goal
While this seems like an easy goal, the more you find it, the harder it gets. Every other time you find the heart, it will shrink slightly, and the goal is to find it 100 times.
The background moves so that makes it easier to see the hidden heart.
Difficulties
There are multiple different difficulties to play, which tend to add/change different rules with the game. From how easy it is to find the hidden heart to penalties for missing the heart.
- Noise Scale: The smaller the number, the smaller the background hearts
- Lives Enabled: If/when you miss the hidden heart, you can lose a life
- Lives: The amount of lives that you have
- Lives Replenish: If when you find the hidden heart you are given your lives back
Achievements
There is also a fun achievement system so you can track your progress and make your game more customized. Each achievement that you earn unlocks a new color for the heart you move around when you try to cover up the hidden one along with the heart in the main menu screen.
Music
The music that plays in the background of the game was made by me in its entirety and is called Ensconced. If you like it, you can find it in the sounds' folder, and if enough people want it I'll look into adding it to a streaming platform.
How it came to be
This game was created based on the background of the game. I wanted to learn how to use Java graphics and when working through different things I first made the game background. I wasn't really sure what else to do next after making it, so I just kinda stared into it for a long time. Then I realized that I could make a fun game where you have to find something among the chaos, and everything else came after.
Donations
While this game is free to play if you decide to pay for the game, no matter the price, it will be greatly appreciated and will help in developing more games in the future. I currently have another game that I have been working on and off for a while, and I'll definitely feel more inspired to get it done faster if people play this game and/or donate.
Thanks
While this is not the first game I've tried to make, it is the first one I've fully gotten through and published. Hopefully there won't be any issues, but if there are, please write a comment.
Thank you and I hope you have fun :)
